Federal Inmate Will Spend 24 More Months in Prison for Possessing Utility Knife Blade

United States Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan announced today, June 4, 2009, that Eric Holmes, an inmate assigned to the Federal Correctional Institution, Loretto, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced in federal court in Johnstown to 24 months’ imprisonment on his conviction of possession of contraband in prison, which will run consecutive to the federal sentence of 87 months he is currently serving for his narcotics and firearms offenses.

United States District Judge Kim R. Gibson imposed sentence on Holmes, age 23.

According to information presented to the Court by Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie L. Haines, the evidence presented at trial established that on April 10, 2007, Holmes was in possession of a utility knife blade, which the jury found to be a weapon.

Ms. Buchanan commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Laurel Highlands Resident Agency, along with the Federal Correctional Institution, Special Investigative Staff, Loretto, Pennsylvania, for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Holmes.
