York County Man Found Guilty of Illegally Possessing Body Armor

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced today that a York County man charged with the illegal possession of body armor was found guilty after 30 minutes of deliberations following a one-day jury trial before United States District Court Judge Sylvia H. Rambo.
According to United States Attorney Peter J. Smith, Michael Wayne Cook, age 43, of Wrightsville, Pennsylvania, purchased a ballistic vest in March 2007 at a gun show in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Due to prior convictions for making terroristic threats and destroying property, Cook is prohibited by federal law from owning body armor.
Cook faces up to five years’ imprisonment and a $250,000 fine. A sentencing date has not yet been scheduled.
The Pennsylvania State Police and Federal Bureau of Investigation Joint Terrorism Task Force conducted the investigation. Prosecution was assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Wesley P. Page.
