Two Indicted on Armed Robbery Charges

United States Attorney Michael L. Levy today announced the filing of an indictment charging MICHAEL MATTHEWS and MICHAEL ANDERSON with conspiracy to commit robbery, which interfered with interstate commerce; attempted robbery, which interfered with interstate commerce by robbery; and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. MATTHEWS is further charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The offenses involve the attempted robbery on June 12, 2009, of the Express Check Cashing, located at 5300 Tabor Avenue in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

If convicted, defendant MATTHEWS faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, a mandatory minimum sentence of five years’ imprisonment, five years’ supervised release, a $1,000,000 fine, and a $400 special assessment.
If convicted, defendant ANDERSON faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, a mandatory minimum sentence of five years’ imprisonment, five years supervised release, a $750,000 fine, and a $300 special assessment.
