OKLAHOMA CITY—James E. Finch, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI, Oklahoma City Division, announces the arrest of Barry G. Brown, Sr., 47 years of age, of Spencer, Oklahoma, for bank robbery.

According to a criminal complaint filed in the United States District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma, on October 18, 2011, a black male brandishing a shotgun entered the InterBank at 1201 W. Memorial Road, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and demanded money. The bank employees complied with the demand, and the robber was seen leaving the bank driving a red Nissan Xterra. Witnesses told investigators the robber walked with a severe limp.

On the evening of October 18, the FBI received several phone calls advising the bank robber was Brown. FBI agents reviewed an Oklahoma Department of Corrections photograph of Brown and thought Brown looked similar to the bank robber. In addition, the website showed Brown was missing his left leg. The FBI also received calls advising Brown had access to a red Jeep-style vehicle. Investigation further showed Brown’s sister owned a red Nissan Xterra. Brown’s sister was interviewed by the FBI and she stated Brown had her vehicle until 4:00 p.m. on October 18.

On October 19, 2011, the FBI determined Brown had rented a room at Studio 6 hotel near I-40 and Sooner Road, Midwest City, Oklahoma. FBI agents were able to confirm the room Brown had rented. The FBI, along with officers from Midwest City Police Department, arrested Brown without incident at the hotel.

This robbery was investigated by the FBI, Oklahoma City Police Department, and the Midwest City Police Department. The public is reminded this arrest is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
