Bridgeport Men Charged with Robbing Banks in Milford and Woodbridge

Nora R. Dannehy, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced that a federal grand jury sitting in Bridgeport has returned an Indictment charging DOMINGO GONZALEZ, 51, of Success Village, Bridgeport, and FRANCISCO DEIDA, 41, of Arctic Street. Bridgeport, with two counts of bank robbery.

According to the Indictment and statements made during court proceedings, on January 28, 2009, GONZALEZ and DEIDA robbed the Webster Bank on Merwin Avenue in Milford of approximately $84,000 and, on April 6, 2009, GONZALEZ and DEIDA robbed the TD Banknorth on Amity Road in Woodbridge of approximately $23,000.

Each count of bank robbery carries a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years and a fine of up to $250,000.

GONZALEZ and DEIDA have been detained since their arrests on May 22 and May 28, respectively.

Acting United States Attorney Dannehy stressed that an indictment is only a charge and not evidence of guilt. Each defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the Government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

This matter is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Milford Police Department, the Woodbridge Police Department, the New Haven Police Department, and the Connecticut State Police. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Sarah P. Karwan.
