  • Eastern District of Kentucky (859) 233-2661

COVINGTON, KY—Nicholas Martin, 29, of Cincinnati, Ohio, was sentenced today to 115 months in prison by United States District Court Judge Danny C. Reeves for committing two bank robberies.

Martin was initially charged in August of 2010. In April of 2011, Martin pleaded guilty to these charges and admitted to robbing the Citizens bank in Highland Heights on June 21, 2010 and the Fifth Third Bank in Bellevue on June 23, 2010. Martin claimed to have a gun during the first robbery and a bomb during the second.

According to the plea agreement, he took $700 from Citizens and approximately $1,700 from Fifth Third.

Martin has an extensive criminal history that includes six prior misdemeanor theft convictions.

Under federal law, Martin must serve 85 percent of his prison sentence, and, upon release, will be under the supervision of the United States Probation Office for three years. He was also ordered to pay restitution to both banks.

Kerry B. Harvey, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; and Elizabeth A. Fries, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation, jointly made the announcement today after the sentencing.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI, the Highland Heights Police Department, and the Bellevue Police Department. The United States was represented by Assistant United States Attorney Anthony J. Bracke.
