Washington County Man Pleads Guilty to Solicitation of Murder

LOUISVILLE, KY—Ryan Lynn Dean, age 21, of Mackville, Kentucky, in Washington County, pled guilty on September 8, 2010, to soliciting a murder for hire, United States Attorney David J. Hale of the Western District of Kentucky announced today.
Dean admitted that in June 2009, he solicited an undercover Kentucky State Police Detective to murder another person and promised to pay ten (10) pounds of marijuana in return for the murder. Dean also requested that the undercover Detective cut off a tattoo on the intended victim’s leg and give it to Dean to evidence the murder, and for Dean to keep as a memento.
The maximum potential penalties are 20 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and supervised release for a period of five years.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David Weiser, and it was investigated by the Kentucky State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The plea was entered before Magistrate Judge James D. Moyer, United States District Court, Louisville, Kentucky. Dean is scheduled to be sentenced before Judge Charles Simpson, III on December 13, 2010, at 2:30 p.m., in Louisville, Kentucky.
