Covington Man Sentenced to 150 Months for Drug and Gun Crimes

U.S. Attorney’s Office June 03, 2010
  • Eastern District of Kentucky (859) 233-2661

COVINGTON, KY—Maurice S. Lovett, 30, of Covington, Ky., was sentenced today to 150 months in prison for distribution of crack cocaine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.

In January 2010, Lovett pleaded guilty to the charges and admitted that he sold approximately 10 grams of crack cocaine to an informant in Covington. Lovett admitted that he also possessed a Hi-Point 9 millimeter pistol that furthered his drug trafficking activities.

Lovett has a prior drug trafficking offense which enhanced his sentence. Under federal law, Lovett must serve 85 percent of his prison sentence, and, upon release, will be under the supervision of the United States Probation Office for eight years.

Kerry B. Harvey, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, and Elizabeth Fries, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), jointly made the announcement today after the sentencing.

The investigation was conducted jointly by the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, the Covington Police Department, and the Northern Kentucky Drug Strike Force. The United States was represented by Assistant United States Attorney Elaine K. Leonhard.
