Man Charged in Overland Park Bank Robbery

KANSAS CITY, KS—A man has been charged with robbing an Overland Park bank, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said today.
Xzavier Stewart, 23, is charged in a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Kansas, with one count of bank robbery. The complaint alleges that on August 20, 2012, Stewart robbed Bank of the West at 9400 Antioch in Overland Park, Kansas. According to an agent’s affidavit, Stewart walked into the bank, approached a teller, demanded “hundreds,” and told her, “Don’t hit the button.” He added, “Hurry up and no one gets hurt.” After she gave him money, he demanded more and received it before leaving the bank.
A bank employee saw Stewart leave the bank and get into a maroon Malibu and drive west on 95th Street near Switzer. After a chase, officers pulled the car over on an off ramp of northbound Highway 69 to 87th Street. Stewart was arrested on the spot.
If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000. The Overland Park Police Department and the FBI investigated. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sheri McCracken is prosecuting.
