Colmesneil Man Guilty of Bank Robbery

BEAUMONT, TX—U.S. Attorney John M. Bales announced today that a 23-year-old Colmesneil, Texas man has pleaded guilty to bank robbery in the Eastern District of Texas.
WILLIAM ANDREW SHUTTER, II, pleaded guilty to an information charging him with bank robbery today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Keith F. Giblin.
According to information presented in court, on Jan. 13, 2010, Shutter entered the Compass Bank in Colmesneil, Texas, wearing all black clothing, a ski mask, hat, gloves, and dark sunglasses. Shutter was carrying a duffle bag and a small pistol. He ordered the bank tellers onto the lobby floor and demanded money from the vault. After a four-hour search, which included a canine tracking unit, Shutter was located in a wooded area off FM 256 East in Colmesneil. Officers also recovered the duffle bag which contained the stolen money and the pistol.
Shutter faces up to 20 years in federal prison at sentencing. A sentencing date has not been set.
This case is being investigated by the FBI, Texas Rangers, Tyler County Sheriff's Office, Woodville Police Department, Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and the Texas Department of Public Safety. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lisa Flournoy.
