FBI Searching for Dangerous Armed Bank Robber

DENVER—The Denver Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force, are searching for Timothy McGlothin, age 41, who is believed to be one of the “Hoppin Hooded Bandits.” McGlothin, and his accomplice, Joshua Licona, were indicted by a federal grand jury in Denver on January 6, 2010. McGlothin is a fugitive from justice, and remains at large, and Licona was arrested and is currently in federal custody.

The FBI Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force is investigating a pattern of bank robberies in which the robbers have been dubbed the “Hoppin’ Hooded Bandits.” As this is an ongoing investigations, agents and officers need the public’s help in locating Timothy McGlothin. McGlothin is a 41-year-old black male, 5’7”, 150 pounds, black hair, and brown eyes. His photo is below.

This matter remains an ongoing investigation. Agents and offices are seeking the public’s assistance in locating McGlothin, who should be considered armed and dangerous. If anyone has information pertaining to McGlothin, please contact law enforcement immediately. A monetary award is possible if anyone has information pertaining to the “”Hoppin’ Hooded Bandits,” which leads to their arrest and conviction. Both defendants were indicted by a federal grand jury in Denver on the charge of armed bank robbery. The first count alleges that the two used a handgun to rob the Bank of Denver, located at 800 East 17th Avenue, in Denver. The second account alleges that the two used a hand gun during and in relation to a crime of violence, in furtherance of that crime, namely the armed bank robbery in count one.

If convicted of count one, armed bank robberies McGlothin and Licona face not more than 25 years in federal prison, and up to a $250,000 fine. If convicted of count two, using a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, in furtherance of that crime, the defendants face not less than seven years, not more than life imprisonment, mandatory consecutive to any other sentence opposed by the court. They also both face a fine of up to $250,000 for count two.

This case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force. The task force includes the FBI, the Aurora Police Department, the Colorado State Patrol, the Denver Police Department, the Lakewood Police Department, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Federal Protective Service.

The defendants are being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Dave Conner.

The charges are only allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
