U.S. Attorney’s Office September 01, 2010
  • District of Maine (207) 780-3257

PORTLAND, ME—United States Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II announced today that Maine’s Project Safe Neighborhoods anti-gun violence initiative (PSN Maine), hosted anti-gang training for over 150 state, local, and federal law enforcement community members earlier this week.

In conjunction with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), PSN Maine sponsored the two-day training at the Maine Department of Public Safety in Augusta which covered topics such as firearms identification and tracing, gun arrest investigations, federal firearms laws, an overview of the national gang picture and Maine gang trends, interviewing skills, and prison gangs and their nexus to street gangs. Experts from ATF, the FBI, the Bureau of Prisons, the New England State Police Information Network (NESPIN), and the U.S. Attorney’s Office were welcomed from across the country to share their expertise with representatives from over 60 state, local and federal agencies.

United States Attorney Delahanty said the training was well attended by state, local, and federal law enforcement officers and agents, corrections officers, prosecutors, and probation officers, including juvenile community corrections officers. He said PSN Maine plans to continue hosting this type of training annually to maintain a high level of awareness regarding Maine’s emerging gang violence problem.
