Londonderry Man Sentenced on Child Pornography Offense Project Safe Childhood Case

CONCORD, NH—John McGarry, 44, of Londonderry, appeared in United States District Court today and was sentenced to nine years in federal prison after pleading guilty to one count of transportation of child pornography. The charge was the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). In May of last year McGarry was confronted by FBI agents in who had reason to believe that McGarry had sent images of child pornography to an undercover FBI agent in Maryland. A subsequent search of computers seized from McGarry’s home revealed numerous images depicting the sexual assault of young children which had been downloaded through the Internet.
McGarry waived indictment and pled guilty in February of this year. After his release from prison Massey will be required to register as a sex offender and will be supervised by United States Probation for the rest of his life.
In February 2006, the Department of Justice introduced Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys Offices, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as identify and rescue victims.
