Kirtland Man Pleads Guilty to Federal Child Sex Abuse Charge

U.S. Attorney’s Office August 06, 2012
  • District of New Mexico (505) 346-7274

ALBUQUERQUE—This morning in federal court, Wilson Harry, Jr., 55, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation who resides in Kirtland, New Mexico, pled guilty to an indictment charging him with abusive sexual contact under a plea agreement with the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

U.S. Attorney Kenneth J. Gonzales said that, during today’s plea hearing, Harry admitted sexually assaulting a 13-year-old Navajo girl in a residence in Shiprock, New Mexico, during the summer of 2009. Specifically, Harry admitted fondling the child by placing his hand on her genitals under her clothing.

Under the terms of his plea agreement, Harry will be sentenced to a 63-month term of imprisonment, to be followed by a term of supervised release to be determined by the court. He also will be required to register as a sex offender. Harry has been in federal custody since his arrest on January 9, 2012, and will remain detained pending his sentencing hearing, which has yet to be scheduled.

The case was investigated by the FBI and the Shiprock Division of the Navajo Nation Department of Public Safety, and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jacob A. Wishard.
