U.S. Attorney’s Office May 24, 2011
  • District of New Mexico (505) 346-7274

ALBUQUERQUE—This morning in federal court in Albuquerque, a United States District Judge sentenced Kacey Allen Fisher, 34, a resident of Bloomfield, New Mexico, to a 151-month term of imprisonment to be followed by a five-year term of supervised release based on his guilty plea to robbing eight banks in New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado. Fisher also was order to pay restitution to the banks that were the victims of his criminal conduct. Fisher has been in federal custody since his arrest on August 7, 2008 and continues to serve his prison sentence.

United States Attorney Kenneth J. Gonzales said that on January 11, 2011, Fisher entered a guilty plea to an eight-count information charging him with robbing three banks in New Mexico, three banks in Arizona, and two banks in Colorado. Court records reflect that Fisher and a co-defendant were indicted on three counts of bank robbery in the District of New Mexico on April 4, 2008. Thereafter, on May 8, 2008, Fisher and his co-defendant were indicted on two counts of bank robbery and two counts of using a firearm in relation to a crime of violence in the District of Colorado. On July 28, 2010, Fisher and his co-defendant were indicted on three counts of bank robbery in the District of Arizona. Fisher agreed to have the charges pending in Arizona and Colorado transferred to New Mexico so that he could resolve all three cases at the same time.

In entering his guilty plea, Fisher admitted that, between February 25, 2008 and April 3, 2008, he and his co-defendant committed the following eight bank robberies: (1) February 25, 2008—Bank of the West, located in San Manuel, Pinal County, Arizona; (2) February 28, 2008—Four Corners Community Bank, located in Farmington, San Juan County, New Mexico; (3) March 11, 2008—Mission Bank, located in Bullhead City, Mohave County, Arizona; (4) March 13, 2008—Bank of America, located in Tucson, Pima County, Arizona; (5) March 21, 2008—Four Corners Community Bank, located in Farmington, San Juan County, New Mexico; (6) March 26, 2008—Bank of San Juan, located in Durango, La Plata County, Colorado; (7) April 1, 2008—First Southwest Bank of Pagosa Springs, located in Pagosa Springs, Archuleta County, Colorado; and (8) April 3, 2008—Animas Credit Union, located in Farmington, San Juan County, New Mexico.

Fisher admitted that he entered each of the foregoing banks and demanded and took money from bank employees while his co-defendant waited outside, serving as the “get-away” driver. Under the terms of Fisher’s plea agreement, the court dismissed the three indictments against Fisher at the conclusion of the sentencing hearing.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation with assistance from local, county, and state authorities in New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado, and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kimberly A. Brawley.
