Kevin Dunn Pleads Guilty to Defrauding Auto Dealers

The Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Vermont announced that Kevin Dunn, 37, of Barre, pleaded guilty today in United States District Court in Brattleboro to a charge of wire fraud. Senior U.S. District Judge J. Garvan Murtha released Dunn on conditions pending sentencing, which has been set for August 20.
According to the criminal information, Dunn acted as an automobile wholesaler for Lowery Auto Sales and Town and Country Honda, car dealerships located in central Vermont. As a wholesaler, Dunn took possession of used vehicles that the dealerships had acquired in trade from retail customers, then sold the vehicles on behalf of the dealerships. In 2011, Dunn defrauded Lowery Auto Sales and Town and Country Honda of hundreds of thousands of dollars by selling their vehicles but pocketing the proceeds. In the course of committing the fraud, Dunn used the interstate wire communication system to make telephone calls and send e-mails.
Dunn faces up to 20 years of imprisonment and a fine of up to $250,000. The actual sentence will be determined with reference to federal sentencing guidelines.
This case was investigated by the Barre Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles.
