Will Parini Indicted on Charges of Distribution and Possession of Child Pornography

U.S. Attorney’s Office April 07, 2011
  • District of Vermont (802) 951-6725

The Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Vermont stated that Will Parini, 28, of Starksboro, Vermont, was indicted today on one charge of distribution and one charge of possession of child pornography. A federal grand jury sitting in Burlington handed down the two-count indictment of Parini. On March 17, 2011, Parini had an initial appearance on a criminal complaint charging him with distribution of child pornography. At that hearing, the Hon. John M. Conroy, United States Magistrate Judge, released him on conditions, including that he 1) submit to home detention and radio frequency monitoring, 2) refrain from unsupervised contact with children, and 3) refrain from all Internet use. The next hearing in the case will be an arraignment on the indictment, though the date has not yet been set.

Court records indicate that Parini traded images of child pornography via e-mail in August and September 2010 with an individual residing in San Antonio, Texas. Court records further indicate that Parini distributed about 200 images of child pornography to this individual and received about 19 such images from him during that two-month period.

The indictment charging Parini with distribution and possession of child pornography is an accusation only; he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. If convicted on the distribution count, Parini faces a mandatory minimum penalty of five years in prison and a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. The possession count carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison. Parini could also be fined up to $250,000 on each charge. The actual sentence, in the event of conviction, will be determined by the court with reference to the advisory Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Assistant United States Attorney Christina Nolan is handling the prosecution. Parini is represented by Peter Langrock, Esq., of Middlebury, Vermont.
