The Knoxville Division honors Mr. Frank Doherty Murphy for his significant contributions to the Knoxville community as a civic leader.

Since 2010, Mr. Murphy has served as emcee for the Kids Helping Kids Fun Walk. He also served as honorary chairperson of the event until 2013. The event raises money for Columbus Home Children’s Services, which provides interventions for abused, neglected, or at-risk children and adolescents. Columbus Home provides a safe house that can keep children from being placed in the custody of the state. To promote the fundraising event, Mr. Murphy has visited elementary schools, appeared on WBIR-TV, arranged for Star 102.1 radio to be a media sponsor, and attended monthly planning meetings prior to the walk.

In addition, Mr. Murphy serves on the Knoxville Leadership Council of Catholic Charities of East Tennessee and has emceed their Emerald Occasion fundraising dinner. Mr. Murphy has performed at fundraising events for the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association.

In October 2014, he was inducted into the Friends of Literacy’s East Tennessee Writers Hall of Fame. The awards ceremony raises funds for adult education and GED classes.
