The Buffalo Division honors Mr. Paul Wietig for his efforts to improve the health and safety of local residents.

Dr. Wietig is the assistant vice president of interprofessional education at the State University of New York at Buffalo Academic Health Center. In this role, he works to develop the best cross-curricular instruction within UB’s schools of dental medicine, medicine and biomedical sciences, nursing, pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences, public health and health professions, as well as the school of social work.

Dr. Wietig volunteered for an FBI-sponsored event for African-American youth living on the East Side of Buffalo, where Wietig was born and raised. Dr. Wietig participated in an East Side community forum in the African-American community hosted by the local U.S. Attorney’s Office to look for ways to improve the safety of its residents.

Dr. Wietig facilitated a criminal and epidemiological workshop, where he served individuals within the public health community. As Ebola cases within the United States and concerns about protocols continue to make headlines, Wietig’s foresight in hosting this event has had an invaluable impact on all communities in western New York. The event also strengthened the partnership between law enforcement and health officials.
