2012 Director’s Community Leadership Awards

Los Angeles National Council of Jewish Women/Los Angeles

Anchorage field office Director’s Community Leadership Award 2011

Executive Director Hillary Selvin accepts the award on behalf of the National Council of Jewish Women/Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles Division is pleased to honor the National Council of Jewish Women/Los Angeles (NCJW/LA) as a recipient of the 2012 Director’s Community Leadership Award.

The National Council of Jewish Women is a grassroots organization of volunteers and advocates who turn progressive ideas into action. Inspired by Jewish values, the NCJW strives for social justice by improving the quality of life for women, children, and families and by safeguarding individual rights and freedoms. The services provided by the NCJW/LA include counseling, a confidential talk line, job training, art and literacy programs, a newly refurbished library, donated clothing, and access to the organization’s 97 thrift shops located throughout the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area.

In addition to the services the NCJW/LA provides to families in need, the organization is a partner and supporter of FBI Los Angeles. The NCJW/LA incorporates the FBI and its subject matter experts into conferences and seminars on topics such as crimes against children, Internet safety, human trafficking, hate crimes, and identity theft. Working in tandem, the two organizations inform communities about the role of law enforcement and how to keep their families safe while providing social services and resources if needed.

In a ceremony at FBI Headquarters, Director Robert S. Mueller, III recognized the recipients of the 2012 Director’s Community Leadership Award. These leaders, selected by their area FBI field office, have demonstrated outstanding contributions to their local communities through service. The FBI is grateful for the work of each of these individuals and organizations on behalf of their communities.

“Whatever the motivation—an unfilled need, a tragic occurrence, a desire to give back—these are people who make things happen and enlist others in their cause,” said Director Mueller. “They are activists who have earned their prestige through good works.”
