2012 Director’s Community Leadership Awards
Dallas | Jan Edgar Langbein |
The Dallas Division is pleased to honor Jan Edgar Langbein, the executive director of Genesis Women’s Shelter, as a recipient of the 2012 Director’s Community Leadership Award. Genesis Women’s Shelter, located in Dallas, is a full-service response center for victims of domestic violence. For more than 20 years, Ms. Langbein has overseen the agency’s internal and external operations, including the Benefit Thrift Store, which significantly supports the organization financially. In 2006, in partnership with the Dallas Police Department and the FBI, Ms. Langbein co-founded the International Conference on Crimes Against Women. The annual conference brings together law enforcement, advocates, prosecutors, and forensic health professionals and provides them the opportunity to enhance their investigative and prosecutorial efforts to end violence against women. In 2009, Ms. Langbein concluded a presidential appointment as senior policy adviser to the director of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women. She is also a member of many advocacy groups, including the Dallas mayor’s Domestic Violence Task Force. |
