2009 Director’s Community Leadership Awards

Indianapolis Liberty Roberts
Collier-Magar and Roberts
Director Mueller and Liberty Roberts

The Indianapolis Division has selected Liberty Roberts to receive the Director’s Community Leadership Award.

Liberty Roberts is a partner of Collier-Magar & Roberts, where she has a multi-faceted civil litigation practice. She represents public entities in state and federal courts in an array of municipal liability claims. Additionally, Ms. Roberts practices in the areas of business litigation, insurance defense, and insurance coverage disputes.

Ms.Roberts is actively involved in the local bar association and her community. She is a member of the Seventh Circuit Bar Association, the Indiana State Bar Association, and the Indianapolis Bar Association. She is a graduate of the Indianapolis Bar Association's Bar Leader Series, which identifies and prepares lawyers for future leadership roles in professional, political, judicial, civic, and community organizations. She has also been selected as a participant in the 2009-2010 Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Series for emerging young leaders in central Indiana.

Ms.Roberts is a 2005 graduate of the FBI Citizens' Academy. She serves on the board of directors for the Indianapolis chapter of the FBI Citizens' Academy Foundation, the Perry Township Education Foundation, and the Character Council of Indiana.

Ms.Roberts' commitment to supporting the FBI's mission has been readily evident by the work she has done in organizing a number of major programs over the last year. She co-chaired the committee to commemorate the FBI’s 100th anniversary, and she donated hundreds of hours of her time to organize the celebration that took place in November 2008. Her endless attention to detail yielded many benefits as more than 700 guests enjoyed the evening's festivities. Bureau employees and their community and law enforcement partners celebrated alongside multiple state and federal officials, including FBI Director Robert Mueller and Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels.

Ms.Roberts also made possible the FBI's annual summer picnic in July 2009. Again, committing her time and talent to the project, she brought together more than 500 individuals for this liaison event. Ms. Roberts oversaw the details of the evening, which afforded Bureau employees the opportunity to network with community and law enforcement partners.

Additionally, Ms. Roberts devotes countless hours to the Citizens' Academy board of directors. She has served as the events chair, overseeing the annual alumni spring luncheons and annual fall receptions for the past three years. She now serves as the president-elect, and is already making strides to organize and improve the function of the board as she prepares to step in as president in 2010.

In a ceremony at FBI Headquarters, Director Robert S. Mueller, III recognized the recipients of the 2009 Director’s Community Leadership Award. These leaders, selected by their area FBI field office, have demonstrated outstanding contributions to their local communities through service. The FBI is grateful for the work of each of these individuals and organizations on behalf of their communities.

“Whatever the motivation—an unfilled need, a tragic occurrence, a desire to give back—these are people who make things happen and enlist others in their cause,” said Director Mueller. “They are activists who have earned their prestige through good works.”
