Maryland Man Pleads Guilty to Bank Robbery

WASHINGTON—Kevin Dupree, 43, of Suitland, Maryland, pled guilty today to one count of bank robbery for a hold-up that took place in December 2010, announced U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Machen Jr.; James W. McJunkin, Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI’s Washington Field Office; and Cathy L. Lanier, Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).

The guilty plea occurred before the Honorable Reggie B. Walton in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Dupree’s sentencing is scheduled for August 2, 2011. He faces a possible sentence of up to 20 years.

According to the government’s evidence, on December 16, 2010, Dupree entered a PNC Bank in the 1400 block of P Street NW. Inside the bank, he approached a teller window and handed the teller a robbery note. Dupree then raised his shirt to reveal the butt of a gun that was tucked inside of his waistband and wrapped in a plastic bag. The teller handed over $5,000. Dupree was arrested the following day. During a subsequent search of his home in Suitland, law enforcement found a plastic toy gun, which was used in this robbery. A portion of the stolen money also was recovered at the time of Dupree’s arrest.

In announcing the guilty plea, U.S. Attorney Machen, Assistant Director McJunkin, and Chief Lanier commended the exceptional investigative work of the FBI/MPD Violent Crimes Task Force and MPD Detective Elmer Baylor, Jr. They also thanked legal assistant LaToya Wade, who provided administrative support, and Assistant United States Attorney Scott Sroka, who assisted with asset forfeiture issues. Lastly, they praised Assistant U.S. Attorney Catherine K. Connelly, who is prosecuting this matter.
