Video Transcript
Hello. I’m Special Agent Martin Hellmer of the FBI’s Phoenix Field Office.
What better month than February to shed some light a fraud scheme we commonly refer to as romance scams.
These occur when a criminal adopts a fake online identity to gain a victim’s affection and trust.
Then, the scammer uses that illusion of a romantic or close relationship to manipulate and steal from the victim.
Might someone you know and love fall prey to a romance scam?
You may just save a loved one from emotional pain and financial suffering.
