Domestic terrorism and international terrorism is not a local threat. It's happening all across the country. A lot of it is intertwined. And so we have threat actors in Kansas City that might be talking to threat actors in Chicago or L.A. or Portland or New York. And the best way for our local community to have an understanding of the complexities involved in these cases is to have somebody here with us.

Yes, we can come down to your local police department and provide you a brief and give you an update on these cases. But if you're not here, if you don't have an officer here every day working with us, getting that real time intelligence, there's going to be that lag time. And so the value is having somebody here seeing the national and international picture.

It's all based on partnerships. And for a model like this to be successful, you have to get buy-in from those that are part of that partnership, those that are part of that task force, and that we provide something to the local community. And in turn, the local community provides something to us through that offering that task force officer.

Nobody can do it by themselves. And I don't it doesn't matter how big your department might be, how many people you have. It's going to interact with other agencies and other departments. And so, in order to—especially in the terrorism world—in order to have a successful outcome, we have to do it together and we have to do it as partners.
