Bank Robberies Down in 2013

Special Agent in Charge Dean C. Bryant of the FBI St. Louis Division has announced a decrease in bank robberies in eastern Missouri in 2013. The total of 53 cases is the lowest number of bank robberies since 2008, when there were 45 cases. The peak was in 2002 with 77 bank robberies.

Of the 53 bank robberies last year, 74 percent (39 cases) were solved. The solve rate is higher than the national average of 56 percent. Roughly a third of cases were solved on the day of the robbery due to the immediate response from local police departments. The rest were solved through extended investigations, which could include tips from the public.

The FBI is asking the public to take another look at some of the unsolved cases. For some, the affected bank is offering a reward.
