Goreville Man Sentenced to 50 Years in Prison on Child Pornography Charges

David Michael Craig, 45, of Goreville, Illinois, who was convicted of producing child pornography, was sentenced to 600 months (50 years) in federal prison on January 19, 2012, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton, announced today. Craig was also placed on lifetime supervised release and was fined $800.

“I applaud the court, who, like me, saw a terribly dangerous offender who was victimizing children, and made sure that he will be off of our streets.” said United States Attorney Wigginton. Craig had previously pleaded guilty to four counts of production of child pornography. In July 2011, law enforcement discovered that Craig had produced child pornography in November 2007 (count one), June 2008 (count two), November 2008 (count three), and July 5, 2011 (count four).

The investigation in this case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation Southern Illinois Cyber Crimes Task Force, the Goreville, Illinois Police Department, the Vienna, Illinois Police Department, and the Illinois Secretary of State Police. This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, in which the United States Attorney’s Office, in conjunction with federal and state law enforcement authorities, is actively investigating and prosecuting individuals who produce, distribute, or possess child pornography. Anyone with information concerning the use of the Internet for the purposes of possessing, producing, or trafficking in child pornography is encouraged to contact the Federal Bureau of Investigation or their local police department.

The case is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney George Norwood.
