Former Inmate at FCI-Greenville Sentenced for Assault

York O. Wilson, 24, a former inmate at FCI-Greenville in Bond County, Illinois, was sentenced in federal court on April 9, 2012 to 46 months’ imprisonment for assault resulting in serious bodily injury, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton, announced today. Wilson was also ordered to serve three years’ supervised release, fined $300, and ordered to pay a $100 special assessment. A jury convicted Wilson of the offense on November 30, 2011.
The violation took place on May 18, 2011 when Wilson brutally beat another inmate who shared a cell with Wilson. Evidence at Wilson’s trial established that Wilson punched, kicked, and hit the victim with a metal trash can. When the assault ended, the victim inmate had to be taken to Greenville Regional Hospital for treatment. Testimony at Wilson’s trial also established that the victim continued to suffer from various ailments as a result of the beating, including posttraumatic stress disorder and that the assault resulted in serious bodily injury to the victim inmate.
The case was investigated by the Special Investigation Section of the Bureau of Prisons and the FBI. The case was assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Angela Scott.
