Threatening Letter to Lounge Results in Federal Jail Time

On September 8, 2011, a Lake of Egypt man was sentenced for sending threatening mail, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton, announced today.
Samirkumar Hasmukhlal Mody, a/k/a “Samir,” and “Sam,” 45, of Lake of Egypt, Illinois, who had previously pled guilty to a one-count indictment charging him with sending threatening mail, was sentenced to five months’ imprisonment, five months’ home confinement, and two years’ supervised release. Mody was also ordered to pay a $1,500 fine and $100 special assessment.
Evidence presented at the sentencing hearing established that, on January 27, 2011, Mody, sent a threatening letter to the Ramesses Lounge, located at Rt-37 S, in Marion, in Williamson County. In that letter, Mody threatened to kill and “blast everybody at [Ramesses] loung[e] by chemical tubes.” On another occasion, Mody left an envelope containing a gun and a threatening note at the Ramesses Lounge.
The investigation was conducted by the United States Postal Inspection Service, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Williamson County Sheriff’s Department. The case was assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Amanda A. Robertson for prosecution.
