Grand Jury Charges Man with Three Central Illinois Bank Robberies

PEORIA, IL—A federal grand jury today returned an indictment that charges Adam T. Wright, 31, no address available, with three counts of bank robbery. The indictment alleges that Wright committed three bank robberies: on Apr. 18, 2011, South Side Bank, 2119 Southwest Adams St., Peoria, Ill., approximately $4,640 allegedly taken; on Apr. 20, 2011, Busey Bank, 2012 Court St., Pekin, Ill., approximately $5,740 allegedly taken; and, on May 5, 2011, Members First Community Credit Union, 1201 N. 24th St., Quincy, Ill., approximately allegedly $7,060 taken.
Wright was previously charged with one count of bank robbery in a federal criminal complaint filed on May 19. During a court appearance on May 27, before U.S. Magistrate Judge John A. Gorman, Wright waived his right to a detention hearing and was ordered to remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
If convicted, each offense of bank robbery carries a statutory penalty of up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Peoria, Pekin and Quincy Police Departments. Assistant U.S. Attorney John H. Campbell is prosecuting the case.
