Stephen R. Wigginton, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced today that on September 9, 2010, two individuals were sentenced in United States District Court in East St. Louis, for their roles in the robbery of a bank in Lebanon, Illinois, on December 19, 2009. DANIEL L. RAVELLETTE, age 62, and DONALD C. LONG, age 32, of both of Vincennes, Indiana, were sentenced in the U.S. District Court in East St. Louis, following their previous convictions for aggravated bank robbery and using a firearm in relation to a crime of violence. RAVELLETTE pled guilty to the offenses on May 18, 2010, and LONG pled guilty to on May 27, 2010.

RAVELLETTE was sentenced today to a total sentence of 308 months' imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release and a $700 fine. LONG was sentenced to a total sentence of 135 months’ imprisonment, five years of supervised release, and a fine of $400. Each Defendant was also ordered to pay a special assessment of $200.

According to information made public in open court or court filings, RAVELLETTE and LONG entered the Regions Bank in Lebanon, Illinois, wearing masks and gloves, and carrying firearms. A third individual waited outside the bank as a lookout and get-away driver. While committing the robbery, the tellers reported that RAVELLETTE and LONG pointed the guns at them and threatened to kill them.

Once the police arrived, the third man who had been waiting outside in a car notified RAVELLETTE and LONG via walkie-talkie. LONG was captured outside the bank, while RAVELLETTE fled in the vehicle driven by the get-away driver. RAVELLETTE fired several shots at the pursuing O’Fallon Police Officer in an effort to escape. The two men were eventually stopped and were taken into custody. A search of RAVELLETTE’s person revealed two loaded pistol magazines, a portable radio with an attached earpiece, a pistol holster, white plastic flex cuffs, a small caliber pistol, and a large amount of cash.

The investigation resulting in these convictions and sentences was conducted by the Lebanon Police Department, the O’Fallon Police Department, the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department, the Mascoutah Police Department, the Fairview Heights Police Department, the Shiloh Police Department, the Illinois State Police, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The cases were handled by Assistant United States Attorney Angela Scott.
