URBANA, IL—A Danville, Illinois man, Mark A. Lennan, Jr., 20, has been charged in a federal criminal complaint with two counts of bank robbery. Lennan, of the 900 block of Campbell Street, made his initial appearance in federal court in Urbana, on Wednesday, Jan. 27, before U.S. Magistrate Judge David G. Bernthal, who ordered Lennan remain detained in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.

The complaint charges Lennan, also known as “Wiggy,” with two counts of bank robbery related to the Dec. 10, 2009, robbery of Landmark Credit Union, at 506 W. Fairchild Street in Danville, and the robbery on Dec. 30, 2009, of First Savings Bank of Danville, at 6 West Williams Street.

The affidavit filed in support of the criminal complaint alleges that Lennan and an unidentified associate entered Landmark Credit Union at approximately 1:31 p.m. on Dec. 10, 2009. According to the affidavit, Lennan was allegedly armed with what appeared to be a handgun but was later determined to be an air pistol. Lennan and the unidentified associate allegedly ran from the credit union with more than $8,000 in cash.

The affidavit further alleges Lennan and an unidentified associate entered First Savings Bank of Danville on Dec. 30, 2009, at approximately 3:47 p.m. Lennan was allegedly armed with what appeared to be a handgun, later identified as an air pistol, which Lennan allegedly pointed at bank employees. Lennan and his associate allegedly fled after taking more than $3,000.

If convicted, each count of robbery is punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Members of the public are reminded that a complaint is merely an accusation; the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

The investigation of the bank robbery is being conducted by the Danville Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Elly M. Peirson of the Urbana division of the U.S. Attorney’s office.
