Are You Ready for a Career With the FBI?

FBI Springfield January 07, 2009
  • Special Agent Marshall Stone (217) 522-9675

The FBI has initiated one of the largest hiring blitzes in our 100 year history. The FBI has openings for over 2000 professional staff and 850 Special Agents. It is crucial for the FBI to maintain a cadre of qualified professionals who possess the critical skills necessary to carryout the mission of the FBI. These positions are located in field divisions throughout the United States and in Washington D.C.

If you have expertise in any of the following fields, you may be right for a rewarding career with one of the most professional law enforcement and intelligence agencies in the world:

  • Computer science;
  • Language fluency;
  • Accounting;
  • Intelligence analysis;
  • Training & education;
  • Records management;
  • Fingerprint examination;
  • Information technology;
  • Physical surveillance;
  • Electrical engineering;

These are only a few of the skills that the FBI is seeking. All of the pending positions within the FBI are posted on the redesigned FBI website at www.fbijobs.gov. Job seekers may explore the over 2000 openings and gather additional information about qualifications and the application process on the website.

All FBI positions require a security clearance and, understandably, a rigorous background investigation, including a polygraph examination, drug screening, credit check, and interviews with current and former colleagues, teachers, friends, and neighbors. The background investigations naturally take some time, but the FBI hopes to fill all of these positions by the end of the fiscal year, September 30, 2009.

In addition to the over 2000 professional staff positions, the FBI also plans to hire 850 Special Agents this year. Agents conduct a variety of criminal, national security, and intelligence investigations. In addition to the above application process, Special Agent applicants must pass a physical fitness examination. The FBI is looking for Special Agent candidates with foreign language fluency or computer science backgrounds, in addition to candidates with expertise in intelligence, law enforcement, military, engineering, law, and science.

“Protecting the national security of the United States and protecting the citizens from victimization by criminals is an incredibly challenging and rewarding career. The FBI sets the bar very high for those who want to join the ranks of the men and women who devote their lives to fulfilling this mission, and we are seeking to attract professional applicants who will carry on the tradition of excellence through the next 100 years.” FBI Special Agent in Charge, Karen E Spangenberg, Springfield Division.
