  • Northern District of California (415) 436-7200

SAN JOSE, CA—Zachary Snead was sentenced yesterday to seven years in prison and 10 years of supervised release for his role in distributing child pornography online, United States Attorney Melinda Haag announced.

Snead, 25, of San Francisco, was indicted by a federal grand jury on Dec. 16, 2009. The three-count indictment charged him with receipt, distribution, and possession of child pornography.

Snead pleaded guilty on Oct. 14, 2010, to distribution of child pornography in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 2252(a)(2), which has a mandatory minimum five-year term of imprisonment. According to the plea agreement, Snead admitted to using his Yahoo! account to trade images and videos of child pornography with others.

The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Jeremy Fogel. Judge Fogel remanded Snead to the custody of the United States Marshals to immediately begin service of his sentence.

Daniel Kaleba is the Assistant U.S. Attorney who prosecuted the case with the assistance of Susan Kreider. The prosecution is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the San Jose Police Department.
