FBI San Diego Announces the 2015 Recipient of the Director’s Community Leadership Award

FBI Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Eric Birnbaum is pleased to announce Securing Our eCity (SOeC) as the 2015 recipient of the FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award (DCLA). On Tuesday, January 26, 2016, FBI SAC Birnbaum presented the DCLA to SOeC’s executive director, Ms. Elizabeth Fraumann, during a ceremony held at the FBI San Diego’s Sorrento Valley office. SOeC was selected by the San Diego Division for the work they have done to enhance cyber security awareness to the San Diego community.

The FBI presents this award annually on behalf of the Director of the FBI. The Director’s Community Leadership Award was formally created in 1990, as a way to honor individuals and organizations for their efforts in combating crime, terrorism, drugs, and violence in America. Recipients of this award are nominated by each of the FBI’s 56 field offices and are recognized for their service above and beyond the call of duty to help keep America and its residents safe.

As the executive director of the SOeC, Ms. Fraumann’s passion and dedication has united the community to work collaboratively to address cyber security. She has been the executive director of SOeC since its inception in 2011. The quality of her leadership is evident in the success of the programs and events created and hosted by SOeC.

One of the most creative events held by SOeC is the San Diego Mayors’ Cyber Cup (SDMCC). SDMCC is a cyber hacking competition for high school students. The winning team is presented with a trophy from the mayor of San Diego and provided a one-week cyber security boot camp. SOeC also hosts Cyber Fest, an annual workshop provided to local businesses with the goal of education and awareness regarding cyber security. SOeC has developed creative events to engage the San Diego population in cyber security. This includes the Cross Border Cyber Opportunities event, commemorating National Cyber Security Awareness month and holding a Data Privacy Day. SOeC is committed to educating and protecting businesses and residents against cyber threats and is a true partner in the fight against cyber crime.

Ms. Fraumann is an alumnus of the 2015 San Diego FBI Citizen’s Academy. She will join DCLA recipients selected by other FBI field offices across the nation at an awards ceremony to be held in Washington, D.C., this spring where she will be personally recognized and honored by Director Comey.
