FBI Special Agent in Charge Eric S. Birnbaum and San Diego Police Chief Shelly Zimmerman are announcing the arrest and filing of federal bank robbery charges against Nygee James Anthony Duncan, age 21. On Thursday, September 3, 2015, a federal complaint was filed with the U.S. District Court, Southern District of California, case number 15MJ2689, charging Duncan with the robbery of the Navy Federal Credit Union, 10865 Black Mountain Road, San Diego, California, on Wednesday, September 2, 2015.

According to the complaint, on Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at approximately 3:59 p.m., an unknown male robbed the Navy Federal Credit Union located at 10865 Black Mountain Road in San Diego, California.

At the time of the robbery, the robber entered the credit union and presented a demand note to the teller. The note stated, “I have a gun with me. Put 5,000 in the envelope and give it 2 me or die.” The teller provided the robber with a sum of money in a white envelope. The robber was observed entering the drive-side of silver SUV and fleeing the area of the credit union. The currency contained a GPS tracking device.

San Diego Police Officers responding to the robbery using electronic tracking equipment were able to locate the GPS device and a man matching the description of the robber in the vicinity of 11500 Compass Point Drive North. The unknown man was subsequently identified as Nygee James Anthony Duncan. A search of Duncan’s nearby residence resulted in additional items of evidence collected that was tied to the robbery. Duncan was arrested and booked into the San Diego County Jail and later booked into the Bureau of Prisons (BOP), Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC).

On Thursday, September 3, 2015, Duncan had his initial appearance before a U.S. Magistrate Judge. Duncan remains in custody at MCC. in downtown San Diego. The robbery of the Navy Federal Credit Union is being investigated by the FBI’s Violent Crime Task Force (VCTF) which includes the San Diego Police Department, San Diego Sheriff’s Department and the FBI. This case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

An arrest and the filing of a federal complaint itself is not evidence that the defendant committed crimes charged. The defendant is presumed innocent until the government meets its burden in court of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
