FBI and La Mesa Police Department Seek Public’s Assistance to Identify North Island Credit Union Robber

The FBI and La Mesa Police Department are seeking the public’s assistance to identify the unknown male responsible for robbing the North Island Credit Union, located at 7968 El Cajon Boulevard, La Mesa, California, on Thursday, March 13, 2014.

On Thursday, March 13, 2014, at approximately 2:05 p.m., the North Island Credit Union, located at 7968 El Cajon Boulevard, La Mesa, California, was robbed by an unknown male. At the time of the robbery, the robber entered the bank and waited in the teller line until called to a teller window. Upon reaching the victim teller’s window, the robber presented a demand note demanding cash. The note threatened to shoot the teller if the teller did not comply with his demand. After receiving a sum of money, the robber exited the bank and was last seen walking northbound through the strip mall parking lot. No weapon was observed and no injuries reported.

Additional investigation by FBI agents and La Mesa Police Department officers indicate the robber may have visited a Cabrillo Credit Union approximately 30 minutes before this robbery. Bank surveillance photographs from the North Island Credit Union robbery and from the Cabrillo Credit Union are below. The Cabrillo Credit was not robbed, but law enforcement is seeking information to identify the individual(s) in both sets of surveillance photographs.

Witnesses describe the robber as follows:

  • Sex: Male
  • Race: White
  • Age: Mid to late 20s
  • Height: Approximately 5’9” to 6’0” tall
  • Build: Medium
  • Clothing: Red long sleeve fleece zip up jacket, red baseball cap, blue jeans, white tennis shoes, shoulder bag, black wrist watch worn on right wrist
  • Miscellaneous: Vertical scar or birthmark approximately one inch in length on right cheek and neck tattoo
