FBI and Local Law Enforcement Seek Public’s Assistance to Identify the 'Chubby Bandit'
Believed Responsible for Four Bank Robberies and One Attempted Robbery

The FBI, Carlsbad Police Department, and San Diego Sheriff’s Department are seeking the public’s assistance to identify the serial bank robber dubbed the “Chubby Bandit.”
The “Chubby Bandit” is believed to be responsible for four bank robberies and one attempted robbery, beginning on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, with his latest robbery on Tuesday, October 16, 2012. The Chubby Bandit has used a demand note and made verbal demands during his robberies. He has also verbally threatened and gestured to have a gun during his robberies.
The “Chubby Bandit” is believed to be responsible for the following bank robberies:
- Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at 5:32 p.m., U.S. Bank, 12655 Scripps Poway Parkway, Poway California
- Thursday, October 11, 2012, at 1:03 p.m., Chase Bank, 7176 Avenida Encinas, Carlsbad, California.
- Saturday, October 13, 2012, at 1:30 p.m., Chase Bank, 607 Lomas Santa Fe, Solana Beach, California. This was an attempted robbery.
- Monday, October 15, 2012, at 2:47 p.m., Wells Fargo Bank, 276 North El Camino Real, Encinitas, California.
- Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at 2:23 p.m., U.S. Bank, 770 Village Drive, Carlsbad, California.
Witnesses describe the “Chubby Bandit” as follows:
