Los Angeles Woman Sentenced in Bank Robbery Case

U.S. Attorney's Office May 16, 2011
  • Southern District of California (619) 557-5610

United States Attorney Laura E. Duffy announced that Linda Catina Morris was sentenced today in U.S. District Court in San Diego by the Honorable Michael M. Anello to serve 72 months’ in federal prison based on a February 8, 2011 jury verdict convicting Morris of bank robbery and conspiracy to commit bank robbery. Judge Anello also ordered Morris to pay $13,516.00 in restitution to the bank and another person inside the bank whose money was taken.

According to evidence presented at trial, on May 7, 2009, Morris rented a vehicle from Budget-Rent- A-Car in Beverly Hills, California, and on May 8, 2009, drove to San Diego with others. They then parked in an apartment complex located near the Chase Bank, at 4111 Governor Drive, San Diego. Morris waited in the parking lot while the others put on masks, entered the Chase Bank, and demanded money from the bank’s customers and tellers, threatening to kill one of the tellers. Following the robbery, Morris drove back to Los Angeles with at least one of the bank robbers. Residents at the apartment complex noted the vehicle and wrote down the license plate number. When Morris returned to her place of employment in Los Angeles later that afternoon, agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation interviewed and later arrested the defendant.

The masked men who entered the bank remain at large.
