On Monday, May 18, 2009, Mark David Keller, age 48, was arrested in La Mesa, California.  Keller was arrested pursuant to a federal arrest warrant charging Keller with possession and transportation of child pornography.

Keller was arrested at approximately 2:00 p.m. in the vicinity of 5500 Grossmont Center Drive.  Keller was arrested by U.S. Marshal’s Deputies without incident.

Investigation in this matter by the FBI’s Portland Field Office, determined between January of 1999 and September 2002, Mark David Keller was known to frequent areas of Portland, Oregon where homeless children were known to frequent.  Keller allegedly would befriend young homeless boys and solicit them to have sex with him for money.  Keller allegedly took pornographic photographs of several of his child victims and then used his computer to transport the images via e-mail.

On January 28 2003, a federal grand jury indicted Keller on one count of knowingly, transporting or causing to be transported in interstate commerce child pornography, and one count of knowingly possessing child pornography.  A federal arrest warrant was issued for Keller on January 29, 2003, in the United States District Court, District of Oregon, Portland, Oregon.

Keller is presently in a federal detention facility and expected to appear before a U.S. Magistrate Judge on Tuesday, May 19, 2009.

Anyone with information concerning Keller’s activities in San Diego is asked to call the FBI at telephone number (858) 565-1255.

An arrest itself is not evidence that the defendant committed the crimes charged.  The defendant is presumed innocent until the Government meets its burden in court of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
