FBI and Texas Rangers Seek Unknown Suspect in Vandalism

On or about the early morning hours of August 12, 2015, the Rodfei Shalom Congregation, located at 3003 Sholom Drive, and surrounding neighborhood in San Antonio were vandalized with obscene and offensive anti-Semitic and racial graffiti. The hateful messages were displayed in black spray paint on vehicles, signs, fencing, monuments, and city structures. Other property on the synagogue grounds and nearby neighborhoods sustained other physical damage as well.

The vandalism is likely to have occurred on Wednesday morning between 12:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of the person responsible for this vandalism. Shortly after the discovery, the FBI’s San Antonio Division, working with the Texas Rangers, opened a civil rights investigation into the matter and began coordinating with investigators with San Antonio Police Department.

“The FBI takes allegations of potential hate crimes very seriously and will not tolerate this type of criminal activity and intimidation directed towards members of our Jewish community,” stated Christopher Combs, Special Agent in Charge, San Antonio FBI. “We are confident that someone in the community knows who did this. We are hopeful that this reward will be an incentive for those with information about the identity of the suspect involved in this incident to come forward and share that information with us.”
