U.S. Attorney’s Office June 19, 2009 |
John E. Murphy, Acting United States Attorney, FBI Special Agent in Charge Ralph G. Diaz, San Antonio Division, and San Antonio Police Chief William McManus announced the arrest of six Texas Mexican Mafia (TMM) members this afternoon charged by federal indictment with conspiracy to interfere with commerce by threats or violence.
Those arrested include:
TMM “General” Gibby Hernandez,
TMM “Lieutenant-of-lieutenants” Ramiro “Rudy” Carrizales,
TMM “Lieutenant” Tony “Negro” Uribe,
TMM “Lieutenant” Daniel “Ice” Aguilar,
TMM “Sergeant” Robert “Gino” Hernandez, and
TMM “Lieutenant” Luis Mireles.
Prior to today, TMM “General” Robert “Bow” Garcia, TMM “Lieutenant” Ricardo “Negro” Garcia, TMM “Lieutenant” Robert “Aguila” Cantu, and TMM “Sergeant” Edward “Trece” Rodriguez were already in custody on unrelated charges.
Authorities are still looking for TMM “Lieutenant-of-lieutenants” Richard “Kicker” Lopez, TMM “Sergeant” Ruben “Sapo” Quintero and TMM “Lieutenant” Amador “Mayo” Sanchez.
The indictment, returned on Wednesday and unsealed today, alleges that since June 2004, the 13 defendants conspired to force drug traffickers to pay an extortion “tax” to members of the Texas Mexican Mafia or face violence in all forms and degrees including assault, robbery or murder.
Upon conviction, defendants face up to twenty years in federal prison.
This Organized Crime/Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) case was investigated by agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation together with investigators from the San Antonio Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Joey Contreras is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
An indictment is a formal accusation of criminal conduct, not evidence of guilt. The defendants are presumed innocent unless and until convicted through due process of law.
