Adam S. Lee Named Special Agent in Charge of Richmond Division

Director James B. Comey has selected Adam S. Lee to serve as special agent in charge of the FBI’s Richmond Division. Mr. Lee most recently served as section chief of the Public Corruption and Civil Rights Section at FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C. In this role, he led the FBI’s two highest priority criminal investigative programs, which include investigations of elected and appointed government officials and civil rights violations. Mr. Lee also led the FBI’s global Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and Antitrust Programs.

Mr. Lee began his career as an FBI special agent in December 1996 and reported to the San Diego Division, where he investigated public corruption and white-collar crime. He managed dozens of highly complex investigations against corrupt public officials, illicit profiteers, bank executives, and organized crime groups. He also served for seven years on the San Diego Division’s SWAT team.

In September 2005, Mr. Lee was promoted to serve on the Cyber Division’s Executive Staff at FBI Headquarters, where he worked for the assistant director of the Cyber Division. Then, in July 2007, he transferred to the Washington Field Office, where he coordinated the White-Collar Crime Program and supervised the Financial Crimes Squad.

Mr. Lee was promoted in August 2009 to assistant special agent in charge of the Washington Field Office’s Intelligence Division and managed its Human Intelligence Program. Mr. Lee worked closely with partners within the U.S. Intelligence Community and led many covert operations affecting the nation’s security.

In June 2012, Mr. Lee was promoted to section chief of the Public Corruption and Civil Rights Section.

Mr. Lee is an attorney licensed in the state of California and, prior to his appointment at the FBI, worked as a California Senate Fellow.
