Update 8/12/13: Arrest Made in Alexis Murphy Case

Sheriff David Brooks, Nelson County, Virginia Sheriff’s Office; Colonel Steven Flaherty, Virginia State Police; and Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey Mazanec, Federal Bureau of Investigation are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing teen from Nelson County.

Alexis Tiara Murphy, has been missing since the evening of August 3, 2013; she was last seen around 7:15p.m. Alexis was traveling in a white 2003 Nissan Maxima GLE SE with Virginia license plates WYN-3706. She was wearing a pink blouse, floral-print (full-length) spandex pants, and brown boots and was carrying a dark and light colored grey purse.

Alexis is described as follows:

  • Black female
  • 5’7” tall
  • 156 pounds
  • Black hair and brown eyes


The combined law enforcement presence in the area searching for Alexis is 50+ officers and analysts. As a result of this combined law enforcement effort, the search area for video footage has been extended 30 miles to the north and south of Lovingston. Numerous tips have been received and officials are thoroughly reviewing each and conducting interviews.
