Lynchburg Man Sentenced for Producing Child Pornography
Randy Bruffy Will Serve 23 Years in Federal Prison

LYNCHBURG, VA—A local man who pled guilty in September 2011 to charges of producing and possessing child pornography was sentenced today in the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia in Lynchburg.
Randy Wayne Bruffy, 31, of Lynchburg, Virginia, pled guilty in September to two counts of producing child pornography and one count of possessing child pornography. Today in District Court, Bruffy was sentenced to 23 years in federal prison and a lifetime of supervised release thereafter. The defendant will also be required to register as a convicted sex offender upon his release.
The case against Bruffy began when an undercover officer working with the Southern Virginia Crimes Against Children Task Force observed the defendant on a popular peer-to-peer file sharing website with what appeared to be a large collection of child pornography images available to share.
On November 10, 2011, a state search warrant was executed at Bruffy’s Lynchburg, Virginia home, during which time investigators seized a computer, video camera, and various media storage items. Upon analysis, it was determined that these devices contained a large volume of child pornography, including homemade child pornography.
Bruffy has admitted that he recorded a video of a then-4-year-old boy while the boy was bathing. The defendant used a hidden camera to capture images of the boy getting in and out of the bathtub. The video also included other footage depicting the boy sleeping as Bruffy filmed his genitals and anus.
The defendant also admitted that he took still images of a then-4-year-old girl’s genitals while she was asleep. Bruffy has admitted to taking the girl’s clothes off while she slept and taking various images of her genitals, buttocks, and anus.
In addition, computer analysis of Bruffy’s computer and media storage devices revealed hundreds of images of child pornography, including images of young children engaged in sexual conduct with adults.
This investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Central Virginia Computer Crimes Task Force, and the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Assistant United States Attorney Nancy Healey is prosecuting the case for the United States.
