1908 - 1962

On April 17, 1962, Special Agent Joseph Irel Hart was driving from Idaho Falls to Rigby, Idaho to meet with a county prosecuting attorney to discuss an investigation. At approximately 11:56 a.m., Special Agent Hart was involved in a head-on collision with a tractor-trailer. Special Agent Hart died instantly from severe head injuries. 

Special Agent Hart was born in March 1908 in Menan, Idaho. He entered on duty as an FBI special agent in October 1940 and worked in the Chicago and New York Field Offices before transferring to the Idaho Falls Resident Agency of the Butte Field Office (now the Salt Lake City Field Office).
