FBI, Lane County Sheriff’s Office Search for Violent Fugitive

The FBI and Lane County Sheriff’s Office are asking for the public’s assistance in locating David Robert Friend, Jr., age 25, who is wanted in connection with a violent attack on a Springfield, Oregon man. On July 10, 2011, investigators believe Friend and an accomplice forced their way into the victim’s home. The victim tried to fight off the intruders, and during the altercation, the victim was shot in the arm. The accomplice is already in custody.

On July 22, 2011, local authorities obtained an arrest warrant charging Friend with burglary, assault, assault with a firearm, attempted murder with a firearm, and interfering with making a report. On July 28, 2011, the FBI obtained an unlawful flight to avoid prosecution warrant (commonly known as a federal fugitive warrant). The FBI has posted information about the attack, as well as photos of Friend, on its website.

Friend is described as:

White man
Height: 5’9”
Weight: 200 pounds
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Blond
Other: Tattoos all over his body to include his arms, chest, legs, and feet

Friend has known ties to the Riverside, California and Alex, Oklahoma, areas. Friend also goes by the nick-name “DJ.”

He should be considered armed and dangerous. If you come are in contact with Friend, do not approach him. Call 911.
