Repeat Bank Robber Sentenced to Federal Prison

U.S. Attorney’s Office December 10, 2010
  • District of Oregon (503) 727-1000

EUGENE, OR—On Thursday, December 9, 2010, Chief U.S. District Court Judge Ann Aiken sentenced Dale Ray Morgan, 58, a transient, to 57 months in prison following his guilty plea to bank robbery, and ordered him to pay $1,300 in restitution to Umpqua Bank.

At his plea hearing on September 3, 2010, Morgan admitted that on March 24, 2010, he robbed an Umpqua Bank in Roseburg, Oregon. According to court papers, Morgan entered the bank and told the teller, “You know the drill. Give me your money.” He left with $1,300 in stolen cash. By the time he was arrested on April 6, 2010, he had spent all the money.

In handing down the sentence, Judge Aiken considered Morgan’s long and violent criminal history which included three prior robbery convictions, one of which was another bank robbery.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney William “Bud” Fitzgerald.
