U.S. Attorney’s Office June 05, 2009
  • District of Oregon (503) 727-1000

PORTLAND, OR—Christina Martinez, 30, was arrested June 4, 2009 in Carlton, Oregon by law enforcement officials, including members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Beaverton Police Department, Yamhill County Sheriff's Office, Carlton Police Department, and Yamhill Police Department, after a federal grand jury returned an indictment on May 13, 2009, charging Martinez with one count of bank robbery. The robbery occurred at the Northwest Community Credit Union in Beaverton, Oregon on April 7, 2009.

During the robbery, a woman matching Martinez’s description approached a teller and demanded cash while she spoke on a cellular telephone. After the robbery, the woman fled from the area as a passenger in a white sedan. On May 21, 2009, law enforcement officials, including members from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Portland Police Bureau, Beaverton Police Department, Vancouver Police Department, and Clark County Sheriff’s Office, executed a search warrant in Vancouver, Washington related to the robbery.

Martinez is currently in custody at the Yamhill County Jail based on a parole violation warrant. Martinez will likely make an initial appearance in federal court on the bank robbery charge during the week of June 8, 2009.

An indictment is only an accusation of a crime, and a defendant should be presumed innocent until proven guilty. Assistant United States Attorney Fred W. Slaughter is prosecuting this case.
