Ligonier Man Sentenced for Role in Fraud Scheme

PITTSBURGH—A resident of Westmoreland County has been sentenced in federal court to six months’ imprisonment, $80,000 in restitution, and three years’ supervised release on his conviction of wire fraud, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
United States District Judge Cathy Bissoon imposed the sentence on Samuel Hayden, 70, of Ligonier, Pennsylvania.
According to the information presented to the court, in October 2010, Hayden and another person solicited funds from an investor in which he promised a significant return on a foreign commodity investment, but instead, Hayden used part of the funds for his personal benefit.
Assistant United States Attorney Gregory C. Melucci is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Hayden.
